NHL Leverages Zixi for Quick, Efficient, High-Quality Monitored Delivery of Live Streams for Post-Season Games

In a year unlike any other, the professional sports industry faced many challenges. While many leagues were forced to cancel seasons all together, the NHL successfully concluded a memorable season with an unprecedented postseason that involved COVID-19 precautions and remote live sports production workflows.

Reflecting on the memorable season, NHL Executives Peter DelGiacco (CTO), Grant Nodine (SVP Technology) and Mark Haden (VP Engineering and IT), Dan O’Neill (VP Areana and Event Operations, and John Frantzeskakis (VP Arena/Game Technology) contributed an editorial piece to Sports Video Group detailing how the league was able to pull off production of its return to play despite the challenges brought on by the pandemic. While health and safety of players and production staff were at the forefront of concern, engineers worked hard to enable talent and production tech to produce live game broadcasts from their homes. When it was necessary to “significantly increase the content-capture and -distribution systems[,] Zixi was deployed to enable multiple end users to get content quickly, efficiently, and with high-quality monitored delivery.”
