FashionTV Brings the Latest Fashion Trends to New Markets with the Zixi Platform

FashionTV is a world leader in fashion, beauty, and lifestyle multimedia content. As the only 24/7 television network dedicated to covering the latest trends and fashion-industry events, FashionTV programming reaches over 665 million households in 192 countries around the globe.
 
FashionTV offers its channel in three variations based on age demographics: PG 13, PG 16, and PG 18. Historically, the network delivered its three channel playlists via satellite uplink to more than 530 TV platforms, making it one of the world’s most widely distributed satellite channels. While traditional delivery methods offered the quality-of-service required to broadcast its content globally, FashionTV wanted to reduce operational costs associated with satellite uplink, and explore the flexibility of next-generation delivery models.

Moving to cloud playout

In 2015, FashionTV decided to move to a cloud delivery model to launch its European HD channel. The network partnered with UK-based channel playout company Veset to build a content library on a cloud server rather than with a satellite uplink service. Veset develops Veset Nimbus, a leading cloud playout software-as-a-service platform that allows broadcasters to create linear television channels for delivery to any television distribution platform.
 
Once the media and playlists for each channel variation were uploaded, FashionTV needed a way to deliver the channels securely—and in broadcast quality—to its distribution partners.
 

Delivering Channels In Zixi Fashion

As a Zixi Eco-Zystem partner, Veset uses the Zixi Platform to deliver content from its cloud playout servers to distribution networks anywhere in the world. Using powerful UDP-based, video-optimized protocols, the Zixi Platform offers the same quality of service and security as traditional fiber and satellite delivery, but with the flexibility that comes with virtual infrastructure. The Zixi Platform provided FashionTV a seamless and cost-effective way to deliver its content over standard network connections.

To make the channels available to content providers, Zixi Broadcaster runs on a cloud server alongside Veset Nimbus. The Zixi Broadcaster converts channel outputs as required by FashionTV distribution partners. Each distribution partner simply needs Zixi Receiver software running on-site to accept the Zixi feed. This configuration provides a completely software-based channel playout and delivery system that relies on open internet connections. With this solution in place, FashionTV quickly and successfully launched its new European HD channel.
